"A Strategic Approach: Winning with Premortems, Learning with Postmortems"

Recently I read a book “Silent nodes lost dollars” written by Radhakrishnan Selvaraj. I was impressed several topics he covered, which are essential for professional life and personal growth. As I went through the book, he mentioned several individuals who inspired him to write these topics. And also he even recommended followed them on platforms like X or Linkedin to gain more insights. I was amazed by his gratitude towards these people, whose posts motivated him to explore these subjects.

One topic that I really liked the concept of Pre-mortems vs Post-mortems. Pre-mortems involve team members analyzing potential bugs or risks that might arise when launching a product in the industry. On the other hand, Post-mortems occur after the product launch, where the team members analyse how it was happened and then fix it.

The Chess game is the best example of both premortems and postmortems techniques. The winner often predicts the opponent's upcoming moves and wins the game by using premortems techniques. Meanwhile, the opponent may realizes their mistake and then think about how to improve in future games by using postmortems techniques. As the proverb tells “Prevention is better than cure” highlights the value of premortems in management, as they help prevent issues before they happen. Postmortems illustrate the importance of learning from mistakes what they did before and improve in future.

PRE-MORTEMS = THINK AHEAD, PLAN AND REDUCE RISKS.

POST-MORTEMS = ANALYSE MISTAKES , IMPROVE FOR NEXT TIME.
